What SNDOUT

It's a music discovery app that uses AI to explore the world of music. The idea is a combination of my longtime obsession with music discovery along with some brilliant thinking from the TunesMap team (where I was an advisor for many years).

How does it work?

It's using OpenAI's API to explore the musical knowledge graph that's embedded into the large language models that create the magic of modern AI services.

Is the information accurate?

Sometimes it's very accurate, and sometimes much less so. Generally, the more popular the music is, more more accurate the results are.

Can you listen to music?

If you have a paid Spotify account, you can sign in and will play music when available. If you don't have Spotify, YouTube links will be provided, but the experience is much less flowing. Apple Music integration is in the works.

Does it cost money?

You start off with some free "tokens" to play with. When you run out of tokens, you'll have to buy more to keep playing. The cost of tokens is mapped to the cost of the AI services (a general challenge for anyone making AI products these days).

Is there an app to download?

For now it's just a web app, which works for both desktop and phone experiences. It's highly recommended that you save the page to your phone's home screen — this gives it an app-like feeling. Get directions here.
